A hat, if seen closely can be divided into 4 parts. The first is the crown, which is used to refer to that portion of the hat that actually covers the head. This is surrounded by one of two things. If there is a hard covering on only the side covering the front, is called a peak or a bill. It acts to protect the eyes against the sun’s glare. If the hard covering runs all around the base of the crown, it is referred to as a brim. Lastly, there is a sweatband running all along the inside of the crown.
